The 6502 based BBC Microcomputer

The first 6502 based BBC microcomputers were produced on December 1, 1981. They proved popular with radio amateurs who used them for RTTY, Cambridge Packet Radio, SSTV and running the AMSAT-UK software library.

The Cambridge Packet Radio software was popular in the years before the widespread adopton of the AX.25 standard. The free software enabled users to send and receive packet radio direct from the BBC Micros cassette tape interface without needing a seperate modem. Software for other modes required an additional modem interface such as the IGADUMA which was produced by radio amateurs in Hertfordshire. Continue reading

AubieSat-1 launch rescheduled

Due to unforseen mechanical issues involving the launch vehicle hydraulic system and exhaust ducts, the launch date of AubieSat-1 has been postponed until October 27, 2011.

ARI Amateur Radio Satellite Meeting Report

The 8th Italian Amateur Radio Association (ARI) satellite meeting was held at the Joseph Hotel in Marina di Pietrasanta (Lu) on September 18, 2011.

The meeting was open to everyone and offered an agenda that covered current amateur radio satellite issues as well as technical lectures.

The presentation by ARI satellite manager, Roberto IW5BSF,  covered the problem of  interference to the Amateur Radio satellites from FM and Digital D-STAR repeaters operating in the Amateur Satellite service segments of the 2m and 70cm bands.

Paul Robinson 2E1EUB, current holder of the Louis Varney G5RV cup, will be active on the Amateur Radio satellites from the Isle of Skye and Eastern Scotland starting Saturday, September 24.
