The AMSAT-UK International Space Colloquium is being held in conjunction with the RSGB Convention in Milton Keynes. One of the highlights will be a presentation by Naomi Kurahara JE6GXN CEO of Infostellar Inc. at 1600 BST (1500 GMT) on Saturday, October 13 which will be streamed live to a global audience.

She will be giving a presentation about her philosophy for shared ground station operation for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites such as CubeSats and Nanosats.

StellarStation Amateur provides free Launch and Early Operation (LEOP) support for amateur UHF band satellites providing access to telemetry data using their worldwide ground station network.

The Hindu newspaper interviews radio amateur Gurudatta Panda VU3GDP about the ExseedSat CubeSat built by an eight-person team at the Hyderabad-based Exseed Space Private Limited that was co-founded by Ashhar Farhan VU2ESE.

ExseedSat carries an amateur radio FM transponder and APRS digipeater and is expected to be launched by SpaceX towards the end of 2018.

“This satellite will serve the ham or the amateur radio community. As a result, it will be of great help during natural calamities, when conventional communication services get disrupted,” Gurudatta Panda VU3GDP said.

After the launch, this artificial satellite will be on a polar orbit with two passes over India everyday. The public will be able to receive this artificial satellite’s beacon on 145.900 MHz FM using a TV tuner and USB dongle, Mr. Panda added.

He said the eight-member team involved in construction of the small private satellite involved four technocrats and four managerial staff members.

He and Exseed Space co-founder Ashhar Farhan VU2ESE were the communication engineers who played a key role in building the satellite.

Four Russian satellites to be deployed during ISS spacewalk

Four Russian satellites with amateur radio payloads are expected be deployed from the International Space Station on Wednesday, August 15 during a spacewalk (EVA-45) by Sergei Prokopiev and Oleg Artemiev.

BIRDS-2 CubeSats to deploy from ISS August 10

BIRDS CubeSat Project LogoMasa JN1GKZ reports JAXA has announced three BIRDS-2 CubeSats with APRS digipeaters will deploy from the International Space Station at about 0945 GMT on August 10, 2018.

BHUTAN-1, MAYA-1 and UiTMSat-1 will transmit 30 minutes after deployment. Initial mode looks CW on 70cm.

They use same frequency 437.375 MHz and transmit in the order of BHUTAN-1, MAYA-1 and UiTMSat-1. Each CubeSat also has an APRS digipeater on 145.825 MHz.

The live broadcast will open on 0915-1010z August 10. Deployment will be done around 0945z.

Initial operation plan is announced as following.
T=0  deployment form ISS
T+30  V/U antenna deployment
T+32  437.375MHz CW beacon start transmitting

So, CW beacon will start 1017z. The location is over Central Asia. Satellites go towards the east and pass through China, Japan, Pacific Ocean, South America, Africa and Europe. Check the orbit with ISS keps.

CubeSats to deploy from ISS July 13

Masa JN1GKZ reports JAXA has announced that nine CubeSats will deploy from the International Space Station on Friday, July 13.

The nine CubeSats are RainCube, Radix, CubeRRT, HaloSat, TEMPEST-D, EnduroSat AD, EQUISat, MemSat and RadSat-g.

EnduroSat AD, EQUISat and MemSat will operate in the amateur bands. The IARU Amateur Satellite Frequency Coordination Status pages show these frequencies:
• EnduroSat AD 437.050MHz CW, GFSK 9k6
• EQUISat 435.550MHz CW, FSK 9k6
• MemSat 437.350MHz BPSK 9k6
