AMSAT-UK Membership.

There has never been a more exciting time for you to join one of the UK’s largest group of people who have an interest in Amateur radio satellites/space activities from all around the world.
AMSAT-UK has an ever growing membership base from shortwave listeners to satellite  engineers, amateur radio in space is becoming more affordable with the
concept of Cubesats.

The AMSAT-UK FUNcube  projects aims to be at the forefront with a launch of it’s very own educational Cubesat in 2012  http://funcube.org.uk/

AMSAT-UK is a voluntary organisation that was formed in 1975 and has provided invaluable assistance to the Amateur satellite programme and continues to be at the forefront of satellite research and design, benefits of membership include a full colour Oscar News magazine (Sample here) that is packed with articles and information relating to our ever growing hobby.
AMSAT-UK has a great Website with all the latest news and articles that are updated on a almost daily basis, there you will find information for the newcomer to the more advance
user,an online shop stocks items from the LVB satellite antenna tracker to booking a room for the forthcoming AMSAT-UK Colloquium 2012 Fri 14 Sep to Sun 16 Sep
A regular net is also held on Sunday’s on 3.780 MHz +/- QRM, at 10 AM (local)  Membership is open to clubs, schools, companies, etc, and individuals from around the world.

The FUNcube-1 micro-satellite (CubeSat standard size) will carry a UHF to VHF linear transponder that will have approx 500mW PEP output and which can be used by Radio Amateurs worldwide for SSB and CW communications.

AMSAT-UK  is working on this new amateur satellite project: FUNcube-1 is a complete educational single CubeSat project with the goal of enthusing and educating young people about radio, space, physics and electronics, will be launched with a number of other spacecraft from a DNEPR rocket sometime in the third quarter of 2012.

FUNcube Dongle Pro or “FCD” is a SDR Receiver! – The Pro version gives unlimited access to the frequency range 64MHz to 1.7GHz (1.1GHz – 1.27GHz omitted) – Similar to USB TV Dongle, the FUNcube Dongle simple fits into your computer’s USB port. It’s compatible with many radio reception programs … like the future FunSDR write by I2PHD (see below!) and it is uses standard USB drivers already integrated into the operating system! (…No drivers required!)

FUNcube Dongle Pro Prices: (for EC buyers Inc VAT at 20%): abaut £134.60/£137.22 inc. shipping! (http://www.funcubedongle.com/)

This video demonstrates the AMSAT-UK FUNcube dongle pro receiving
CW signals from PRISM.

The You Tube video has the following comment by the publisher

“I was only using a vertical VHF/UHF antenna hooked up to the FUNcube Dongle Pro. Software is SDR-Radio and HRD Satellite Tracker, both by Simon HB9DRV”

New Frequencies for AMSAT-UK FUNcube-1

The AMSAT-UK FUNcube-1 satellite is due to launch on a DNEPR rocket from Yasny later this year.

This launch could carry around 11 amateur radio satellites including FUNcube-1 into space. As a result the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) satellite advisory panel have had to carefully coordinate the planned operating frequencies in order to minimise the risk of interference between FUNcube-1 and other payloads on the same launch.

The IARU Amateur Satellite Frequency Coordination Panel have now confirmed the following frequencies for FUNcube-1 (these frequencies replace those previously announced)

Inverting linear transponder:
Uplink            435.150 – 435.130 MHz
Downlink        145.950 – 145.970 MHz

Telemetry:     145.935 MHz   BPSK

AMSAT-UK have announced that the power of the FUNcube-1 1200 bps BPSK telemetry beacon has been increased to 400 milliwatts. This should provide a strong signal for school students to receive using simple equipment.
